Working Partners is always looking to work with agents and their talented writers, be they established or unpublished.
We find more than two-thirds of our writers through literary agents who see the benefits of having their clients work with us. Less-experienced writers will gain in confidence from developing manuscripts with our editors, often within the comfortable framework of an established Working Partners series. Working Partners also provides more experienced writers the opportunity to keep writing between their own commissioned books.
The Process
Working Partners creates and refines highly defined series concepts, storylines, and cast lists for our projects. Using our agency contacts and writer database, we will ask a number of writers with interest in a particular genre or age group to produce a writing sample, to put the flesh on the bones of any given project. We do not pay for samples but we do provide useful and extensive editorial feedback to writers whose work is not selected.
Once we have identified the right voice for a project, we will agree contractual details in principle with the agent/ writer and approach publishers in the UK and the US. Contracted writers will receive an advance against a percentage of Working Partners’s royalty income. The upfront sums for each title are relatively small. However, for writers struggling to find a publisher for their own work, we provide a great learning experience and an alternative route to market. We can also help able and prolific authors to make a career from their writing.
